Claim Up to $5,000 in Energy Saving Rebates!
Buildings, including our homes, account for 18% of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions. NRCan has developed the Canada Greener Homes Grant in order to offset these emissions and give you a better quality of life. This not only helps our planet, but also makes your home more comfortable and affordable! With this grant, you could claim up to $5000 in rebates and $600 for home evaluations!
The team at Dr HVAC is happy to offer services that are covered under the grant, and we want to make the application process as easy as possible for you!

How Do I Apply?
Step 1- Register
Visit Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Greener Homes Program portal page ( or call 1-833-674-8282)
- You’ll sign in using the same CRA login used for taxes.
- Have your property tax bill number and proof of residence (your driver’s licence or other government-issued ID showing your address such as a utility bill)
Step 2- Book & Complete your EnerGuide evaluation
Before any work can begin, you need to have a registered energy auditor visit and evaluate your home. This fee is reimbursed by the government, up to $600. Find a Registered Energy Advisor in your area using your postal code. They will provide you with all the information you need on what energy-saving changes you can make in your home.
- Save all your documents. In order to receive your reimbursement you need proof that the evaluation was performed and you must complete the entire Greener Homes Grant process
- After your evaluation, you will be given an EnerGuide rating, a Renovation Upgrade Report, a Homeowner Information Sheet, and an invoice.
Step 3- Complete your Energy Saving changes
Contact Dr HVAC for all your HVAC changes- Smart thermostat installation, Furnace upgrades, and Air Conditioner upgrades! We’ll help you get the changes you need completed, offer advice, and provide all the documentation you need to get your rebate!
Step 4- Book & Complete your Post-Retrofit Evaluation
The government requires that a post-retrofit evaluation be completed to obtain an accurate measure of energy saved and greenhouse gas emissions reduced as a result of the retrofits. This is especially important as the “Before” and “After” photos that your advisor takes will be needed in order to receive your grant.
- The same evaluation will be redone to see the results of your changes
- The results will include your new EnerGuide rating and label, plus additional information about how to improve your home’s energy efficiency even further.
Step 5- Apply for your Reimbursement
Submit all your required documents online via the NRCan Greener Home Program portal or by mail. Your evaluation advisor will have also updated documents on your file with the “before” and “after” photos. You will need to provide proof of your upgrades with the following information:
- Your rating and evaluation reports (both pre and post changes)
- All invoices and receipts for the work done
Important information
- These federal grants are not taxable and do not have to be declared as income
- Keep all your documents until 2028.
- Be sure to get proof of the licence from any professional that installs anything in your home.
- All grants are prorated based on the type of home and the percentage of improvement you make.
