Air Source Heat Pumps

Save money on cooling AND heating with an air source heat pump. It looks just like a regular air conditioner but is much more efficient.

Stay Cool — and Warm — For Less

Everyone is talking about how heat pumps are a great way to save on cooling costs.

What are heat pumps? In the summer, they’re a hyper-efficient air conditioner. In the fall, they reverse direction to bring the warmth in, so you don’t need to turn on your furnace until it’s colder. You have complete control as to when to switch on your gas furnace. You can learn more in our FAQs section below.

…He was very knowledgeable, incredibly friendly and patient with our questions. He went out of his way to show us things like correctly setting out humidity dial for the different seasons, which was not something he had to do…I would highly recommend this company based on the service we received today!

Heat Pump FAQs

Q: How do air source heat pumps work?

A: Air source heat pumps work differently from furnaces. They basically move heat from one place to the other using a refrigerant that responds to temperature. In summer, a heat pump will move heat out of your home and release it outdoors. In fall, it brings heat into your home from outside, even when it’s chilly.

Q: Do you really save money with a heat pump?

A: When it comes to cooling, heat pumps will save more money. To find out how much, compare the SEER level of the heat pump to the SEER rating of your current air conditioner. You can convert the difference to a percent to get an idea of the savings. For example, a 20 SEER heat pump is over 53% more efficient than a 13 SEER air conditioner.

For heating, a heat pump will save money depending on the temperature and the current gas rates versus electricity rates. As of 2018 in Toronto, it saves money to use your heat pump until it drops below 2°C to 4°C. Then you should switch to your gas furnace. We can give you the latest information during our consultation.

Q: How much does it cost to install a heat pump?

A: When it comes to buying a heat pump, it’s about the same cost as installing a regular air conditioner. The actual cost will depend on the model you choose and your existing home heating and cooling setup. Don’t worry – we always give you an exact price quote in advance which shows all costs involved.

Q: I have an old house without ductwork. Can I still get a heat pump?

A: Yes you can. There are ductless models that have a unit that goes on your wall or ceiling, and it’s connected to the outdoor unit by a thin line. There’s almost no mess when installing these.
